Southern Maple, Acer barbatum Michx. is also called Florida Maple, Southern Sugar Maple, and Hammock Maple. It has a sweet sap like its northern relative the Sugar Maple, but its not commonly tapped for sugar. However, it is such a beautiful and workable wood, the crackers prized it for furniture and so it is not a common find in todays woodlands.

Southern Maple is much softer than its northern relative and the grain is full of colors that seem to blush. This side table style is not only captivating to look at, its also very functional.
